Animal Farm

It seems to me as though Squealer is almost trying to brainwash the animals for Napoleon. He is going around and reassuring everyone who has doubts about what Napoleon is doing. Some animals think that interacting with the humans and engaging in trade is wrong. Squealer is telling them that they must have dreamt it, that engaging in trade is okay. Also the pigs are moving into the farmhouse and sleeping in the beds. Clover doesn't think this is right. When she has the Fourth Commandment read to her, she doesn't remember it saying "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets." Squealer happens to be walking by at the moment and reassures Clover that there wasn't a ruling against just beds. The pigs need the beds. He also says "Surely none of you wishes to see Jones back?" That usually settles it.

Response to ch. 7 and 8

A lot of animals are getting punished and so far it seems as though the only punishments are death or a ration reducing. Violence has also become more of answer to things. When I heard that Napoleon was dying, I was thinking that the animals would finally be free and not have to be told what to do. I wonder why Squealer even told the animals that Napoleon was dying. Did he want them to be worried or to care more about Napoleon? Soon after, Squealer tells them that Napoleon is on his way to recovery. I wonder why Napoleon always uses Squealer to tell the animals things. The only time Napoleon tells them things is in the barn for the meetings. I think that Napoleon is using Squealer so that when Napoleon needs to tell the animals a lie, it's not him doing the lying. It's Squealer. Either that or he's just lazy which is a very good chance.

  1. I agree, that really annoys me how he uses that like a threat. However it is very effective and I think he will keep using it.

  2. You have an O.K. response, with good grammar and spelling, but you didn't make any historical references, let alone explain who anyone was, also you need paragraphs, not just one grouping of sentences.

  3. I agree with that. I thought it was great post. Also I think that Squealer is brainwashing them just so Snowball can't come back.

  4. Your piece really got me thinking, and that is something that I wish I knew how to do in my writing. Your piece was very distilled and that is also another good skill to have when writing, good job!

  5. I understand and agree with what your topic is. He's making them think wrong from the right and I wonder where it's going to go. Nice job finding some quotes in there too.

  6. Good piece. It felt short, but that is alright.. I liked the way you were descriptive about exactly what Squeeler would say. You had a pretty strong voice in here, and I liked your piece. Good job. Next time, try and remember an author's note. I forgot too :) Great job!

  7. For a not that long response, it was very good! You mainly focused on one character "Squealer", and talked about what you think of him basically, I like that.

  8. Despite that your post was so short it was good.
I liked how you talked about your opinion on Squeler.

  9. This comment is on your second response, I think that Napoleon is using Squealer to talk to the other animals because he is so persuasive and Napoleon knows that Squealer can calm down much better then he can when something happens.

  10. Nice post. Although it was a little short, I liked it. Short and to the point. One way that you could make it a little longer is by tying in real life examples of some of the events. Nice job focusing on a few characters..

  12. I thought it was a great post.
And I agree with Mitchell, Squealer can probably persuade them better.

  13. I thought the same thing when I read Napoleon was dying. The questions you asked were very good and got me to think about what I read.

  14. 4/25 You always do a great job pointing out things in the book that I would have never noticed. Thanks for that! Good job.

  16. I liked how you always notice these little things out of the book that can be a great deal. You also had some opinion and questions of you own that I liked. Great job!

  17. I would say that you need to really stay focused on developing your organization skills. These writing pieces, in fact, whenever we write, there is always an introduction, body and conclusion. I am not sure why you would abandon such fundamental principles. The content is good, but the way it is written needs attention.
