Fahrenheit 451

In Fahrenheit 451, Guy is a fireman. Here in the future firemen don't put out fires because the homes are fireproof. Now, Firemen actually start the fires. They burn all of the books. Guy has been keeping a secret. He just showed his wife the twenty some books hidden up in the air vent. Her first reaction was to grab a book and run to the incinerator. If it were me, I would want to see what was written inside. Guy asked his wife if she would help him read them. I predict that she will say yes but she probably won't help. I think this because she isn't very sure about keeping the books. She might even call the fire department.

Author's Note: This is a response to my book, Fahrenheit 451. Some people were wondering why the books are being burned. The books are being burned because some people don't want what's in the books to change people's thinking and theory. The chief fireman says he has tried to read the books. He says you come away lost. Also he told Montag that the firemen are the Happiness Boys. They are there to keep the people from getting upset or anything else because of the books.

Have you ever remembered a time when you were with a person you hadn't seen in a while? Did you then try to find out where they were? That happened to Guy Montag.

'The thought had been with him many times recently but now he remembered how it was that day in the city park when he had seen that old man in the black suit hide something, quickly, in his coat.
... The old man leapt up as if to run. And Montag said, "Wait!"
"I haven't done anything!" cried the old man, trembling.
"No one said you did.

The old man admitted to being a retired English Professor who had been thrown out upon the world forty years ago when the last liberal arts college shut for lack of students and patronage.

His name was Faber. He said a few poem-like phrases with his hand over his coat pocket. Then with a certain trembling, he wrote his address on a slip of paper and gave it to Montag.
"For your file," he said, "in case you decide to be angry with me."
"I am not angry," said Montag surprised.

Faber had guts. Giving his address to a fireman and saying a few things that most likely came from books is almost giving his life. He's probably scared whenever the phone rings or when the doorbell rings. He doesn't know who it could be. He also can't just talk to anyone about his problem. I think we all feel like that at some point when we get into trouble. We are scared that someone will figure out what we've done. I hope that Faber doesn't get caught because he might be a valuable person to help with the books because he was an English professor. I think that he might help Montag with what to do with the books.

Author's Note: I am writing this response for book club.

I Fahrenheit 451, there is a robotic dog or the Hound as they call it. It can remember ten thousand odor indexes on ten thousand different men. Right now they are using it to track down Guy after he killed a few firemen and ran away.

There are some things I don't really like about the Hound. I don't like that it has eight legs. It seems more like a spider than a dog. Another thing I don't like about the dog is that it doesn't fly or start fires. If they made it a robot, why didn't they give it the ability to fly or start fires? It does inject massive amounts of morphine into a victim.

I like a few things about the Hound. Since it can remember ten thousand different people, it would be very useful for tracking people down. I also like the fact that it doesn't really have a mind of its own. It just does what they tell it to do. It would go after anyone it wanted if it had its own mind.

  3. Wow this book seems almost sad. I feel that it is sad because all of the past knowledge and facts in the world are being thrown away and burned. What about Bibles? are they burning those?

  5. I liked your post, but I was wondering if you could have responded to why the firemen burn the books and looked at how or why the government controlled the media and books to keep people happy and ignorant.
