To Kill a Mockingbird Ch. 22,23,24
The killing of Tom Robinson at the jail was not necessary. If they wanted him not to escape they could have shot him just in the leg. They didn't need to put seventeen bullets through him. A white man would not have been killed. This is just another example of the discrimination toward the African Americans that has been displayed throughout the book. I don't understand why they treated the African Americans differently. A person's character is far more important than what's on the outside. Boo Radley is another example of this. He showed good character when he put the blanket around Scout. Yet he is treated poorly because he appears differently than others.

I agreed with your statements and I do believe that he would not have been killed if he would have been white. Unfortunately that was the way it worked back then and luckily it is not that way anymore.Good job on the writing although a authors note would have been nice
ReplyDeleteI did not know you felt so strongly about this. It is a very good point that some people aren't treated as equally as others. I definitley noticed that Tom was being treated differently but i wish you would've pointed out Boo's abuse earlier in the story.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wonder if you have found a history topic to spend some time researching. The earlier years of our country's history are difficult, and sometimes painful to re-visit, but they are who we are, and sometimes, those events need to be remembered to help define who we want to be.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it was very wrong to do all of that to Tom Robinson. I never liked hearing how people are discriminated against. Short, but you got to your point. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your post. I think back to those times and that was how it was. You might want to add an author's note.
